Armory Inspection and Unexpected Humor

Posted on Monday October 16th, 2017 @ 10:13pm by Ensign Laura Axinal & 2nd Lieutenant Gabrielle Sorenson

Mission: Mission 0: Crew Arrival
Location: Armory, Deck 12

Laura stood at the rack of weapons, holding one of the phaser rifles in her hand. She turned it over several times, giving it a thorough inspection as she did. She tapped a few notes into the PADD at her right as she did, noting every single detail and discrepancy of the weapon as she did. She placed it back on the rack and selected the next one. The door opening behind her took her from her thoughts. She sighed and turned to face someone she expected to be above her in the chain of command, not expecting what she saw.

Gabrielle stood behind the woman, somewhat surprised to find someone else in the Armory. She had come to inspect them and insure that they were up to code, but someone had seemed to beat her to the punch, so to speak. She hesitated momentarily before smiling and sticking out her hand.

"Second Lieutenant Gabrielle Sorenson, MCO," she introduced herself. "Who are you?"

"I am Ensign Laura Axinal, Assistant Chief Security and Tactical Officer," Laura responded, taking the hand and shaking it. She disliked the interruption to her work, but this particular person was going to be working closely with her.

“Ah, right, the Borg lady,” Gabrielle remarked, looking over Laura. Laura sighed audibly.

“I would request that you refrain from referring to me in such a way,” Laura replied dryly. Gabrielle smirked in response.

“What, lady? I meant no disrespect…” she said with a chuckle. Laura raised an eyebrow.

“I am going to assume that that particular statement was meant to be humorous, but I did not find it as such,” Laura stated. Gabrielle placed a hand on the woman’s shoulders.

“We will get to the bottom of your sense of humor, I promise,” she said with a heavy air of seriousness to her words. She waited a few moments before breaking into a smile. “So, how goes the inspection? Would you like me to help out?”

“If you are implying that I am inefficient in my tasks or require supervision, I assure you that neither are the case. You will also find that I am incredibly efficient and thorough in my inspections and will be able to find far more flaws than you would in a similar amount of time,” Laura explained. Gabrielle sighed and walked over to the rack.

“Well, with your efficiency, you think you would have found that flaw,” she half whispered. Laura whirled to face her questioningly. “You know, the one with your sense of humor.”

“I do not have a flaw in my sense of humor, Lieutenant Sorenson. Perhaps you have a flaw in being able to be humorous,” Laura jabbed, a half smile playing on her lips. Gabrielle looked shocked at first, her face slowly breaking into a grin.

“There may just be hope for you yet, my dear. Hand me one that you haven’t worked on, if you wouldn’t mind,” Gabrielle said. Laura did as was asked and handed an uninspected rifle to the young marine. She would, of course, check all of her work anyway, as she was sure the Lieutenant would do to her own work, but it was almost pleasant having company that was as carefree as her. Perhaps this assignment would be good for her after all.

Gabrielle smiled as she worked closely with the former Borg. She had heard that she would be a little abrasive, but Gabrielle had taken it almost as a challenge. It would be far more fun than she had expected to have on this assignment to poke and have fun with a former Borg drone.
